Ras Kass – A.D.I.D.A.S: Review

Every now and then, along comes a project that restores your faith in hip-hop and Ras Kass’ All Day I Dream About Spittin’ (A.D.I.D.A.S.) is one such project. That is not to say that it’s perfect, but it’s an admirable effort put forth by a great MC with proper motivations. A.D.I.D.A.S. cannot be found through what are now considered the norms of music purchases. Ras took a visionary approach by cutting the distributor out of the mix. If you so choose to purchase A.D.I.D.A.S., your $8.99 goes directly to Ras which is worth noting because, this unlike so many albums, is one that has the artist’s stamp throughout because he has only himself to thank for the success and/or blame for the failure. The former will likely be the case.
Wale – More About Nothing: Review

I hate mixtapes. I don’t have time to listen to 32 2:00 snippets of random tracks that sound like they were recorded in a garbage can with somebody yelling ad libs throughout. That said, I want to be clear. I don’t care if it is free and is a follow-up 2008′s Mixtape About Nothing, Wale’s More About Nothing is an album. Wale again revisits the Seinfeld theme that graced the first and the result is a concept album that belongs in the elite company of Masta Ace’s A Long Hot Summer and Prince Paul’s Politics of the Business.

The Seventh Seal: Review

Hip-Hop is a strange beast, there’s no other art form I can think of that constantly shuns its icons, pioneers & innovators. Whenever the new guard starts to make a move, they constantly push the old guard out of the picture. Only a chosen few can manage to stay relevant and enjoy long careers . I’ve always wondered why that was…just because your 30-40 doesn’t mean you can’t make good music any more…right?
Vesta – Day Light’s Coming: Album Review

Let me start this review by saying I’m not a “pop-rock” fan and I’m not talking about the legendary Candy, I am a music purist. I Like my music raw, not too commercial / top 40 sounding. Not saying it can’t be melodic, or thought provoking but it has to be REAL, like the music was made for the sake of making good music and not bottom lines.
The Purple Tape Part 2 Review

Now from the gate, I AM A HIP-HOP HEAD, period and have been for over 25 yrs. I was a DJ for 3yrs, a wall writer & to a lesser extent, a break dancer. I am from Philly but made weekly trips to NYC, mostly Brooklyn & the Boogie Down Bronx. I remember when hip-hop began, the mainstream media would diss it on the regular, it’s a fad, it’s not “real” music, it’s just an urban thing, it won’t last, etc…Well look where we are now,hip-hop is the dominant form of music on the charts, even with the slow death of cd’s due to PTP’s, it still sells.
