Assassins Creed 2: Review

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

assassinscreed2THIS is how a sequel should be done. I reeeeally love Ubisoft developed games, period. From The Prince of Persia titles (the first three) to the Splinter Cell series, their titles always seem to be made with great care and with the gamer first in their mind. Assassins Creed is no different. With the release of the second game in this franchise they seemed to have gotten it completely right. First off I’m an action/adventure game junkie and this title feeds my need entirely. From the jaw dropping scenery to the story progression, this game immerses you completely in renaissance Italy. Now what’s a brutha like me care about 1400′s era Italy? Nothing but this title drew me in with the hand-to-hand combat and the SICK fluidity of Ezio Auditore’s “freerunning” and climbing abilities…like the original but better.

The sheer amount of scaling, climbing and jumping has been improved all over. There’s not a building in the game that can’t be climbed…and this game is HUGE in scale. This is a true testament to game design because I’m a Grand Theft Auto-a-holic (San Andreas being my fave) and this game is just as varied in mission selection and locales with a very, very open world…much more than the first

This game is one part history lesson, one part action adventure and all out fun. The story takes place before the previous game and involves Altair’s (protagonist of last game) ancestor Ezio Auditore. Basically a revenge tale at first ,Ezio finds out after the wrongful death of his father and most of his family at with only his mother and sister surviving. Ezio begins his long journey into his father’s secrets and past, tying him directly to the assassins cult, protectors of good and history.

Ezio starts out a somewhat novice to the arts of assassination but he is a very quick learner. The story proceeds to twist and turn until the very satisfying ending so I won’t bore you with more details. The side quests aren’t stupid or tacked on, all serving a purpose to drive the looong story forward. You get a much larger variety of weapons to choose from, most designed by your pal Leonardo DaVinci. Lenny also designed some of the “Q” like gadgets you will utilize form time to time(the glider and double gauntlets are hot). All of this comes together gloriously. The mixing of fact and fiction is great. Game designers can learn a lot from this title.

The action/adventure bar has been raised and rightfully so. Water kills in the first title are gone and game length is at least 16-20 hrs which is plenty(even after 16+ hours of play time I’m left still wanting more). The fighting engine is much tighter and responsive than the original, with a healthy does of blood flow, so be warned.

All in all a definite contender for game of the year in my book, a complete title that delivers on all fronts. The action isn’t constant but it is dope and the lulls are short. Ubisoft has another AWESOME title to add to their impressive library. Thanks for listening to gamer complaints and addressing them. A definite must buy for the holidays. Just enough “wow” factor to keep the franchise alive, from the amazing graphics, rpg elements, open-world vibe and sick-ass action, this game has it all. A 9.5 for sure.

Rating: (9.5/10)

ironmangameI personally think the movie tie-in game genre of games gets an unfair, bad rap. Sure the larger portion of these games suck, but there are those that don’t and should be acknowledged. I’m not one of those uptight gaming nerds that expects every title they play to be flawless, it’s a video game not sex. In the industry as a whole only 10-20%of titles are really great with the other 80-90% being average or sucking, that doesn’t mean they’re not fun because they’re not perfect.
So here it is, my top 10

  • The Matrix-The Path of Neo-Actually a dope game if you are a fan of the movies, released after the trilogy and developed w/the movies directors. This game has all the “Matrixy” action in one game
  • Wanted: The Game-Picks up where the movie left off, tight graphically and the action is sick and yes you can “curve” the bullets
  • Spiderman 2-A really hot “super hero” title that again, was a tie-in that rocked…some feel one of the best “Spiderman” titles out there, rightfully so.
  • The Godfather Video Game: Another example of a good movie game. Good graphics, story and action
  • Scarface-The world is Yours: A dope “Grand Theft Auto” type title that does the film justice. Only complaint, the voice acting (no Al Pacino in the game portions), other than that a good title.
  • Peter Jacksons King Kong-Peter Jackson and Michel Ancel put together an awesome tie to the blockbuster movie of the same name. Great graphics, sound and control…this game quality from nearly beginning to end.
  • Chronicles of Riddick-The Assault on Dark Athena, Escape From Butcher Bay: Pure first-person bliss, with a little “stealth action/adventure” thrown in, hot.
  • Wolverine Origins: Unchained-The best wolvie game ever. Violent, bloody and feral. Graphically hot and in my opinion better than the movie…by far.
  • Lord of the Rings: The two towers-The shining example of what a movie tie-in game should be, flawless transitions form movie footage to game, basically a hack-n-slash but oooh so pretty, exacting and fun.
  • Lord of the Rings: Return of the King-Hands down the best tie-in game ever, flawless transitions from film to game. Graphically tight with great extras and top notch voice acting(all actors present on both titles),and follows the movie perfectly.

Honorable mention. James Camerons Avatar: This game looks to change the general opinion of movie games.

No More Heores 360 & PS3 bound

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

nomoreheroesThe well received but low selling wii title “No More Heroes” is making its way to the Xbox 360 & PS3. With enhanced visuals and a special mode that gives the female characters more “revealing” clothes. It looks like Marvelous (developer) is doing all they can to get people to revisit the game. What’s funny is that the game was originally being produced for the 360 so…so I don’t know, just thought I share that with you.

Oh and don’t forget to check out what going on with development of “No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle” It’s wii bound…so that means, unless your little sister or girl friend want to play it after a long session of wii fit, you’ll probably be waiting for the unannounced Xbox360 & PS3 version. Come on you know it has to be coming.

Bradd Pitt+Dark Void=big budget film

Posted by: admin | Comments (0)

darkvoidHere at MMF we have been keeping an eye on Capcoms upcoming release “Dark Void”. On the surface It reminds me of a “Rocketeer” type jet pack game…It’s obviously not. Here’s something that I didn’t see coming though, Bollywood film giant Reliance BIG entertainment and Bradd Pitt’s film co. Plan B are developing a film version of the soon-to-be released video game.

The film companies reps say the project could be a “starring vehicle” for Pitt. The games story is about a pilot named Will who, after crashing in the Bermuda triangle is transported to a parallel universe, where a band of humans must fight an alien threat that had long been thought extinct. Will and the other fighters are out manned but not out gunned. With a plethora of weapons at their disposal they fight and drive the alien forces away…Sounds like it could be hot, we’ll keep u posted.
