Ninja Assassin: Review

Ninjas, The word alone brings forth a mental picture of a man dressed completely in black…a killing machine, the definition of badass with a healthy serving of mysticism on the side. Their impression on pop culture indelible, hell even turtles became some. When I was a teenager, the ninja movie craze took over for awhile…it started with “Enter the Ninja” with Sho Kasugi in the starring role. The worst of these movies being “Ninja 3 the Domination” which mixed horror and ninjas…terribly. Now along comes the sickest Ninja movie ever made (in my opinion) and guess who stars as the ninja instructor, none other than Sho Kasugi himself, AWESOME!
This movie fires on ALL pistons from start to finish, nothing but action, action, ACTION! And boy, not since “Shogun Assassin” have hacked limbs flown and blood flowed so freely, and you’ll love ever bucket of it…definitely not for the squeamish. The action is hands down, some of the tightest I’ve seen yet and shot so beautifully it’s insane.
The “plot” is simple enough, Ryozo (Rain) was an orphan who was taken as a child to be raised as a ninja. There are nine clans with a special technique each (why is this starting to sound like Naruto?) the clan Ryozo belongs to, the Ozunu, has the ability to healing and control pain. Making the mistake of caring for one his fellow trainees who tries to escape but is caught and returned to be killed right in front of Ryozo and the whole school. So begins his hatred of the “lifestyle” he’s a part of, he. I’ll spare you the rest, it’s not too hard to figure out. But hey, I didn’t go to see this for the story, I wanted ninja/kung-fu violence…and was NOT disappointed.
The way director James Mcteigue (V for Vendetta) and the Waschowski’s (Matrix trilogy) have re-vitalized the ninja movie is nothing short of genius and it’s so pretty. The BEST action movie of the year. Action junkies will not be let down..at all. GO SEE THIS it delivers and then some…possibly the best “ninja” movie ever, which is not a hard goal to achieve as most ninja movies sucked. This is the one to see, no doubt. A 9 for balls to the wall action done well. I hope they make more, you will to, this movie is whole lotta fun.
